A Nation of Immigrants

We are starting an Immigration Unit and we will be exploring our immigration histories.  What do you know about your family’s past? 

• Are you an immigrant?
• What country/countries did your family immigrate from?
• When did your family immigrate to the United States?
• Why did they come to this country?
• What would make you leave your home?

There’s a Boy in the Girl’s Bathroom

Over the past week, we have been reading There’s a Boy in the Girls’ Bathroom by Louis Sachar.  Throughout the book there have been several hidden messages contained in the guidance counselor’s advice.  Which message do you feel is the most important in the story?  Explain.

Freedom of Speech?

Wow, Cyberbullying is no joke! I just read an interesting website titled “Stop Cyberbullying”. A lot of you mentioned how you would get your parents and principal involved, which is probably the best idea. It was interesting to read on this website that when schools try to get involved by disciplining the student for cyberbullying actions that took place off-campus and outside of school hours, they are often sued for exceeding their authority and violating the student’s free speech right. They also, often lose! What do you all think of that? What about our freedom of speech?
